SERVICE TO OTHERS
The Stratford Junior Womans Club was founded by Marilyn Pearson in 1967 for the purpose of performing civic-minded acts promoted by the general membership of the Club. The Stratford Junior's are a member of the state-wide organization of Connecticut Junior Women, Inc.
The Stratford Junior Woman's Club has cooperated in the past in Pre-School Vision Screening programs, sponsored Children's Reading Hours and Programs at the Stratford Library. They have provided gifts and special treats to units at the Ella Grasso Center at the holidays and planned an annual "Pizza Party" and "Day Out at the Movies" for the residents. Club members have also participated in community projects such as monthly membership collection of non-perishable food items for the Food Pantries at Sterling House and the Red Cross, Thanksgiving and Easter Baskets for Stratford Families in need, Adopt-A-Park at Beach Drive, Holiday entertainment at Lord Chamberlain Skilled Nursing Facility and the Town Beautification during Project Green Sweep. The club, as part of the Connecticut Junior Woman's Club, also participates in a State Project Fund, raising funds with special events such as: Children's Theme Pokeman Bingo and Sponge Bob Bingo, with proceeds going to the state project Time for Life.
All club members assist in various projects designed to generate funds to support charitable causes while expanding their horizons, meeting interesting people and developing friendships with a group of women who share like interests.
